Wong Kar Wai
Born in Shanghai, Wong Kar Wai moved at the age of five to Hong-Kong with his parents. He was recognized as one of the most promising filmmakers, in 1988, with his first feature film As Tears Go By. In 1990, Days of Being Wild, depicting the youth of that mythical Hong Kong of the 60s, won five top prizes at the Hong Kong Film Awards. He then directed Ashes of Time. In 1994, Chungking Express was the first of his films to break through into wide international distribution. One year later, Fallen Angels consolidated his position as one of the most innovative storytellers of our times. In 1997, Happy Together earned the Best Director Prize at Festival de Cannes and in 2000 Tony Leung walked away with the Best Actor Prize for In the Mood for Love, also in Cannes. His latest films are: The Lady from Shanghai and The Grandmaster with Tony Leung.
